Did you try again with a buddy? Use vise-grips rather than pliers and lock them on for a better grip. I guarantee, you'll have no trouble. I've done it too many times
tried it, the wire is broken somewhere along the line.... so it wouldnt work

Then you will have to resort to what Rich above said in post #7....as quoted from the thread he posted:

"If the cable is broken, you reach in behind the grille with a small hooked tool and find the cable going to the latch, hook the cable and pull it out 'this will take quite a bit of force' so you can grab it, you then remove the plastic housing and grab the steel cable with a pliers or other tool and from the latch side- pull hard to release the latch. you should then will have to replace the cable later. Also lube the latch."

Between the grill and the hood, you may have to bend the grill plastic some. you`ll see 2 bolts. Use a socket and an extension and remove the 2 bolts. your hood will open
