Sounds like fun!

If I didn't have the '00 Jimmy sitting on blocks here in the driveway, I'd have gone the 350 route myself. Parts are cheap & widely available, plus you get a massive increase in torque - even with no modification at all. It's a win-win.

I think it'll cost a bit more than a V6 swap with the kit you'll need though, & I'm sure there will be alot of time consuming fabrication going on with little odds & ends - happens with any motor swap though.

go for it. Im in the middle of rebuilding a 350 to put in mine this winter. Just so you know you will also need electric fans and add/change a few wires around in the pcm connectors. Other than that its a pretty straight forward swap.

i was told if you take a 350 and wire harness and pum out of a 95 chevy truck you can put it in to yous and just plug it all in but your rig has to be a 4.3 for this to work

It depends on what V8 you put in there. If it's a stock TBI 350 from a late 80s mid 90s truck, it only makes 210 HP. A Fbody 350 from the same years made 245ish HP with TPI. The 305s were worse. A TBI 305 made like 170 HP. The 4.3 CPI was the best performing 4.3 V6 (besides the turbo motors) since it makes about 190-200HP when it's running as it should.

I was seriously going to do the swap, until I totaled up how much everything would cost. It wasn't worth it, in my circumstance, to do it all without cutting corners. I paid $1000 for my '94 S15 Jimmy, and while it's in excellent shape, keeping a good running 200 HP 4.3 was the better route. Other circumstances may be different.
