Changed transmission fluid & filter yesterday. Made a mess last time & got covered in fluid so used a vacuum pump this time to suck out as much fluid as I could through the dipstick tube before removing the pan - made the job a hell of a lot easier & less messy. Old fluid was quite clean & no swarf was on the magnet which is a good sign.

Also changed transfer case fluid - man that Autotrac 2 stuff is hard to get here in the UK, had to order some from a GM dealer & it was a silly price compared to what it is in the US. Easy job to do though, put a new rear output shaft seal on too as old one had been weeping for a while, hadn't lost much fluid though.

Very happy to have gotten those jobs done.

Next job is lower intake gasket in a couple weeks time, not looking forward to that one, has been slowly weeping under the A/C compressor for years, barely a pint every 6 months so nothing major - would just feel happy with the gaskets done though.

Today I mounted an auxiliary high power LED light under the rear bumper and then tied it into the trailer wiring harness to come on when I put the blazer in reverse.

The Sacrificial Anode made it through it's 5th winter in my ownership. She's getting rough, though. Took one hell of a beating this winter! Wife smashed it into a guardrail in January, had the OEM blower motor and resistor take a dump around the same time, needed u-joints and front brakes at the start of the season, and now we end the season with a blown wheel cylinder and a hub bearing going bad.

Since I worked the bugs out of the ignition last year it's been running great, and averaged 16.8 MPG all winter long. Can't mind that with ethanol-diluted fuel, snow tires, 4x4, and a carburetor.

Going to transfer the plates to a Volvo I bought last year, and retire the Blazer to yard duty. Haven't decided if I'm going to put the effort into fixing the 4x4, since a buddy plans to give me a '94 S10 pickup with a plow, some time around the fall. Don't want to sell the Blazer, since I LOVE that driveline - can use it in another project down the road. Might put the plow on the Blazer ... haven't decided yet.

This is it's last winter though. Body is getting rough, and the steering box is so worn out there's about 4" of play in the wheel, lol. We've put over 40k winter miles on it the past 5 years - she served us well.

replaced aftermarket HU and the faulty wiring the previous owner had done. They had PAINTERS tape on wiring... painters tape... I also did a full tune up everything but the PS fluid so far (need an alignment anyways) and added all lucas products to fluids. Lastly, a K&N to replace the dark brown dirt covered filter and an engine fog/carb clean. Spark plugs.. geez, I dunno... Everything except replace parts, I even did the brakes and greased the beast.

I ran into a problem though, because their faulty wiring shut my dash lights off due to them running a remote wire into the 12v red wire. Dash was damn near on fire!

I checked all fuses and they are all good, even after a hard reset the dash lights only come on with the dimmer switch all the way up. Doing that causes dome & courtesy lights to come on as well... so I had to take them out to drive at night. So, al fuses are good, all wiring is good... should I buy a new dimmer switch? I dont know if this is normal and I dont see why it would be, but my lights are always on, no matter what position the selector is on when the truck is running. No parking lights only, no turning lights off... always on. SO, all that tells me to just replace the switch and hope it works. Also, my Turn signal relay is going nuts, so I will replace that as well and hope I dont have to replace the entire multi function switch.

I bought this blazer off a buddy, and it was a steal. But the previous owner must have only cared about having speakers and a subwoofer (which wasnt even wired properly) because they dogged the **** out of everything. Tranny had to have been rebuilt at some point, because it runs damn good for 200k... same with the engine, although it does need the fuel spider replaced and probably an entire exhaust system upgrade. I am sure the Cat converter is done for. I noticed it leans a bit to the left as well, So I will do shocks and springs too. Aside from that, it's not that bad especially for the price I paid. Within 6 months it wont even be the same blazer...
