so i bought so new tail lights for the xtreme but when i went to put them on i could only get one screw out on each side due to a shock covering up the other screw is there any way around this without taking apart the shock assembly

You mean the tailgate assist-struts. Easy. There is a metal tab/clip (wrapped around top "ball" part of strut) take a flat head screwdriver and push the tab out toward you. Onced released the strut will pull easily off of the ball stud holding it on. Just do the top of the strut and move it out of the way to access the screw. When your done, push the strut back onto the ball stud and push the tab/clip back into place.
