I find that I have to remove the front wheels when I grease the ball joints. The lower fittings are recessed and difficult to get the grease gun to grab. Not a big deal, maybe some poor design. Just curious if anyone has a better solution for this or is it just the way it has to be done?

I can't remember what the original stock ball joints have, but some of the cheaper replacement ball joints come with just a straight grease fitting. You can remove the fitting and get one that has either a 45* or 90* tip on it that will make it possible to grease without removing the wheel. I think it's 1/8" NPT, but that may also vary depending on the replacement ball joint.
