having a little trouble with my 91. for some reason, its not catching park. just started happening the other day. when it rolls you can hear it clicking like its trying to catch. is it a simple adjustment problem or do i have an internal problem?? all other gears are fine.

Check the linkage underneath. You may have to remove the tranny fluid pan to see what else is going on.

My 92 is doing the same thing, I have to smack the shift lever upwards towards park and it catches, its a linkage problem for me. If it goes into every other gear ok then its just the linkage if it wont go anywhere or moves freely its your gear shift selector arm, runs about 100-150 at a tranny shop.

my dad used to have an 83 that did that. it happened after we changed the tranny fluid in it. my jimmy dosn't click when it rolls, it just won't go into park all the time and i have to slam it into park.

It's either an external linkage adjustment or an internal problem with the parking pawl.

I'm starting to have the same problem and I was told it is probably the bushings for the cable because there plastic and known to break. You should be able to see the shift cable from underneath the truck just follow it until you see something that is broken or cracked.
