How big is your boat? There is a trans oil cooler built into the rad. If it's a heavier boat and your going up hills and really putting a load on the transmission, then yeah, install an auxillary cooler. The auxillary coolers are reasonably inexpensive and fairly easy to install.
If you have any concerns, put on a cooler, it'll keep the trans oil temp down.

20 feet. Probably a good idea to install a cooler. You gotta figure you'll be using it in the heat of summer, so a cooler would be like life insurance on your transmission. A cooler is a lot less expensive than than a transmission.

I dont know how much extra an extra tranny cooler is, but i'd think it worth it... better then having to redo a tranny someday right?

the stock trans oil cooler in the radiator isnt very big. You can pick up a good size one at Auto Zone/Advance Auto for around $50. You can also order the adapter fittings so you dont have to cut and splice the stock lines. Here are the links....

Example cooler - Click
Fitting Kit - Click

You can get both of these from Advance Auto.

Heres another thread on the trans cooler too, it talks about the different brands....

Well to ask more questions on this subject. I picked up a tranny cooler to install. It is gonna be for light to medium towing if not heavier and planned heavy duty off-roading. It is a Flex-a-lite part number 4112.. Dimesions are 5"x15"x3/4" didn't realize the DVW was rated for 12,000. To much or gonna be alright?
