I'm looking to convert cluster lights and most of my interior to RGB's and be able to change color on demand. Anyone done this on the blazers? I see just blue mods to the instrument cluster but no RGB's.

 

As far as I know, you would need to put 3 lights or one bulb with 3 led's or smd's or something.

Jimmy's aren't too classy to even make the effort.

Mercedes/bmx/porche SUV - sure.

 

They make single LEDs that change color (red, blue and green) according to how much voltage you put to them. Some of them rotate the colors automatically. Most I've seen are the older can style that don't put off much light at all. I'm sure there is a way to do it but not trying to cut him down I don't see it being worth all the trouble. Different colors of LEDs are not gonna produce the same amount of light to your eyes so the red might look over powering the green might look dim (just an example). Plus the simple fact if you can't get any newer than gen one LEDs they are not gonna light up worth a crap.

 

I just think it's tacky as hell in a blazer/jimmy.

They aren't classy cars to begin with.

Unless it's a completely tricked out body kit, rims, paint job, interior custom then sure.

Stock? Hell no.

The only other thing I could think of would be making your own fixture that fits into one bulb. Then having 3 bulbs/led's aiming inside of it. Then you just wire them up to a dimmer of some sorts (so it dims one, and brightens the other in a really nice transition effect)

When my dad and I moved, we rented a dodge caravan or something.

It had this green light bar on the ceiling and had green lights built into the doors.

I took the door panel off and it looked like it was made like that from the factory.

There is a line between rice and class and colored LED's are way into the rice side of the line. Unless it matches the vehicle. Even then, they would only be practical if you have natural white as the primary for serious lighting. The color(s) could be for car shows, showing off, etc.

 

What LEDs are you using for your dome?

 

I Was going to try Gen 1 in the instrument cluster I was thinking they will work.

What I want to do is get the instrument cluster, 4x4 switch, climate control, door looks and windows switches converted to RGB. I want to try and get something similar to that of the newer mustangs but on a larger scale. I've driven my blazer over 100k and sometimes the dash seems way to boring... Plus most of my lights are burnt anyways so why not change them to something fun?

I want to use the generic replacement gen 3 bulbs for the floor and map lights

 

Gen one LEDs in the dash will give hot and cold spots bad. Sometimes depending on the setup I've seen gen 3 bulbs do the same. Good luck tho and let me know how it turns out.

 

Hey where can I find some individual gen3's. I want to fab up some led parking lights (I can't seem to find any online for my year)

i originally thought it was a putco brand light, but its a recon brand light. :P

i had to bend the metal tabs in, and into a cup shape (because they held the opposite way before) and it took a few tries to get it right, but ive hit some fun bumps now and havent had it come loose.

-on a side note... i went out with a friend last night for some fotografee and his truck has regular interiors.... wow what a difference! i havent even got in someone elses car at night for months! its sooooo dim!
