I have heard of rumspringe, but not on our area
We have old order , horse buggy and no power lines but diesel generator and wind turbines
New order , black cars and power
And Mexican (redneck) menonite , they are a rough bunch

My grandparents farm was bought by old order
They have a phone in the barn , that a bussieness
Power for water pump etc runs off an automated diesel generator
They had a gas powered wringer wash machine
My parents house got water from that farm well
Xmas day a few years ago we had nearly 40 people in the house and no water
I went down to see if we could figure out what was going on
Turned out the signal wire from the water pump had broke some place under the frozen ground
The problem was the two buildings were probably about 300 yards apart
The farm owner was about to try digging up the wire to try to find the break
Fortunately I had a spool of underground phone line at home
I could see his mind racing at the thought of the cost or owing me for the wire
I think he was shocked when I told him it was free because it was in my best interest to get the water pump working again

You should have said it was your communal contribution. They pull together as a community all the time. Ask any Amishman and he'll tell you there are as amny kinds of Amish as there are weeds in the field. The way it was explained to me, they only change when the entire church agrees to change. Hence the reliance on buggies. To get the entire congregation of hard headed Amish men to agree seems like Divine Intervention.

I've been asked if I was Mennonite (they drive plain black vehicles with little chrome) since I drive plain jane cars. No, I have a mustache with my beard.

BTW I rarely go to Homedepot , we have a Canadian chain Home Hardware
The staff doesnt run in the opposite direction when you make eye contact and their lumber quality is sooooo much better
I do the same thing and never use a self checkout. That used to be someones job.

I also shop at and work for Home Hardware. I shop at the building center in Camrose where I live. The people there are great and the girls like my parrot that I take with me. Always a good experience there - just special ordered curtain rods for my new house from them too. I like that we have no self checkouts at any of the stores, and probably never will. And the staff are supposed to help you find your things. Im proud to work for these guys.
