While the kids and I were washing our collective cars yesterday, I moved the blazer from the drive way to the street. I shut off the engine and tried to restart it to move the car a little further down the street and it wouldn;t turn over, just get a rattling sound when I turn the key
Have tried cleaning the battery terminals, checked all fluids, left the hood open all day in case something in the engine compartment got wet but there wasn;t that much water coming out of the hose. I lost my job about a month ago and this is not helping matters much. When I turn the key to aux, the parking gear indicator light comes on and the gages start working, when I turn to the start position , i hear a rat a tat sound from the engine compartment. Any ideas other than to get a horse and buggy? although I might save some gas that way!

Does the sound seem to come from the rear of the right front wheel well. Its possible you got water into the starter motor which if you duck down next to the front right wheel and lift the rear-most flap you will see the back of the starter.
