Hello all this my 99 4 dr blazer with 4wd. I have about 148xxx miles and it is still running strong. Things I've done plastidip wheels along with chrome trim, and some audio stuff inside. I want to do somethings and want to get some insight on what I can do. Things I have in mind is bigger tires I know 30x9 is what I've read we can run with stock suspension or could we go bigger with minimum cutting also will that give any poke out? Also I want to level it I know torsion keys can do this is the ride truly that rough as I'm trying to keep as budget as possible. Next thing is exhaust thing just cutting from cat back to make a nice rumble sound. Lastly is there anything you can do to get a little more performance out of it and maybe some MPG? I apologize for so many questions figured more questions I could ask in one thread more that could get answered. Also any other possible mods I might want to consider would love to hear.
As for exhaust, there is the Dynomax bolt-on kit. I installed that on mine when the originsl muffler wad going out. It makes a nice but not threatening rumble. I did not install it for that but rather it was the cost-effective option I could do in my driveway.
Going to 31" tires will require rolling the inside lip of the top of the fender and maybe some trimming on the front and back.
For mileage improvements, there is not much you can do. But eith larger tires, you might see a bit of an improvement due to the effective gesr ratio now being higher.
I covered the hood with vinyl carbon fiber vinyl wrap, part of the roof, too.
Plastidipped the wheels like you then added some bolt covers Walmart Wrangler tires and a new grill, Bluetooth radio with microphone and magnetic phone holder.
Ok I'm fine with 30s I think for those will be fine. Ironic that bigger tires could give better mpg since on most cars it's the opposite.
To be fill in some details, there is a bit of an offset to the larger tires making the effective axle ratios higher and therefore contributing to better mileage. This offset is due to more more total mass and rotating mass that takes energy. For me the reason for larger tires was to get a bit more clearance in combination with my suspension lift.
Okay, I love hearing the science behind it. I'm still looking for wheels and tires the one I've been a fan of as of late is a 15x8 running a 30x9.5 wheel. This is all stock of course just cranked my torsion keys up to level the truck.
