Had a 1991 Ranger Extended cab 4 by 4....Tranny pakced it in $3k to replace and swap...I don't think so.....
So I just bought a 1996 Jimmy Auto with the 4.3 l 4 by 4...
So I am new to the forum..
I am new to Chev/GMC products (Have had mainly Fords, but the occassional Dodge and or Toyota over the years) Have no specific loyalty to one company or the other....
I am new to Jimmy's...
First question - Is this site, being for Blazers, compatible with Jimmy's...Stupid question I know...(Cause I can't find a Jimmy forum on the net, that looks quality)...
I am very mechanically inclined, have been wrenching on my vehicles my whole life, every time I get a different vehicle, I buy a Haynes manual (I don't like the Chiltons) and put it in teh washroom, so I have intellectual reading material.....
Is there anything about this particular make/model/year that I should be aware of before it can become an issue????
It looks like the water pump may be leaking right now, so I am looking at tackling that tomorrow...Maybe....
I am from British Columbia, Canada, am 43 and have been a wildland fire fighter for the past 25 years...If your trees are on fire, here I come, If its your house, sorry, can't do that....
Looks like a quality site, looking forward to learning about Chevs/GMC's.
Mike

Well, only 6 hours from start to finish.....The fan was an extreme PITA to get off...Eventually built a "tool" out of flat steel with 3 holes drilled in it, so that I could bolt it on to the housing, in front of the water pump, so that I had something to reef against, to get the fan off...
Kinda hard to explain....Did not take any pictures of it....Was not in the mood[:@]
Got it done, no leak showing at this time, so hopefully that is finito....

ABS BRAKES!
The EBC4 ABS brake systems are terrible and they havehad many factory recalls and trouble reports filed with theNHTSA.If there are no obvious fluid leaks from the wheel cylinders, lines or calipers, many people (myself included) will assumeit is a by-passingmaster cylinder and replace itwhen the pedalfeels soft withexcessive travel . That is a legitimate concernwith conventional brakes butthe master cylinder is not likely at fault with ECB4 ABS brakes. The problem is the dump-valve in the ABS EBCM (electronic brake control modulator). A bit of trash or corrosion can cause the ABS modulator dump-valve to by-pass and effect rear brake operation. A clue is if you determinethat the rear brakes show hardly any wear after 20,000+ miles, and the brake pedal is soft and has too much travel. Do notreplace the master cylinder becauseit is probably the EBCMdump-valvethat is malfunctioning.
TheEBCM is not serviceable and a rebuilt unitcost $684 outright with a $313 credit for your old one, plus labor cost replacing it.The main problem isfinding a mechanicwho knows how to replace a EBCM.The EBCM dump-valveis the only problem I have with my 1991 S10 Blazer SUV and that is enough.
