Add spare tire carrier 2nd gen 2005 Jimmy
Hi everyone, I have a 2005 2dr Jimmy sls with the spare tire stored inside. I would like to know if I can buy the exterior mounted carrier and bolt it on or not? What modifications are required is there backing nuts etc... already inside? I have searched and searched this forum to see if anyone has a definitive answer but can't seem to find it?? I don't really want to end up with the spare stored on the roof rack box. Any help would be much appreciated.
They are getting harder to find, but they are mountable. Alot of people are finding them to put into their 4 doors. I did it with both my blazer and jimmy. Not hard to do, with little modification.
On the 2 doors that didn't come with it, I'm not sure if they have the backing plate in them, might need to do like weve done on the 4 door blazers. There was one guy last year or two that installed one on his 2 door, think he mentioned it didn't have the plates, but was still able to install it.
You can find after market ones, pay out the rear end for it. But the stock ones are way cheaper.

Any idea who make the aftermarket ones? Do you happen to have any link to the person that did this on his 2 dr? I have searched but can't seem to find much in here.

That's the build thread of the 2 door build.
For the aftermarket one, I dont have any suggestions. Other then it would be easier to find one that installs in the hitch, others would probably need a custom bumper.
Stock carriers are way cheaper to what I've seen while looking tho...

There are now several options for receiver mounted swing-away spare tire carriers.
Perhaps the niceset of these are the ones by Wilco.

Thanks Christine, the problem with that style is that I can't tow a utility or boat trailer then. I will keep looking for a GM built one that I can mount. I am not worried about mounting it as long as the fit is correct.
'The Hitchgate Solo line is tow-rated at 7,500 lbs (max trailer weight) and 750 lbs (tongue weight).'
Of course, you'll want to double-check this!
