Default How do you wire up driving lights?

I have an 04 Blazer with DRL. I'm trying with little success to wire up a set of Hella 500 driving lights to come on with the high beams, go out with the low beams and stay off with the daytime running lights. Has anyone done this and kept everything else working correctly in the process?

Well...I have not actually done this, but I am in the plans of doing so. If I remember right, the Daytime Running Lights are the high beams, only not at full power. So what I have been looking into is getting a relay that will require a certain voltage before turning on, so a relay that will require more voltage than what the Daytime Running Lights will give, but when the high beams come on, there will be enough voltage to flip the relay. Like I said, I have not actually done this yet, but from my understanding, that will work.

Let me know how it works out, I'd like to know if I have to change my strategy with it.

I actually asked about the special relay on another forum thats geared towards custom auto electronics, stereo installers, etc. I'll let you know what I find out. Surely we're not the only ones to put driving lights on a late model GM with DRL. I know someones figured out how to do it.

You simply need to have a relay wired that will close the circuit for the Hella's when the high beams are cut on...just remember to use a good relay...always run a fuse or Circuit breaker and decent gauge wiring.

Figured it out. You have to ground the driving light relay to the high beam ground wire not the chassis ground. In my case with an 04 model, run the signal wire for the relay to the green wire in the left side highbeam harness and the relay ground wire to the purple wire in the samehighbeam harness. Driving lights come on with the high beams, go off with the low and DRL work normally.
