Question Paint over powder coat

I'm planning on trying my hand at painting a new grille shell for my 94 full size. It comes with a powder coat finish and I just want to research what is necessary to prep the grille for paint. Plan is to (once prepped) paint the base gloss black with Dupli-Color, and Effex clear w/metal particle glitter effect. If it comes out right, more parts on my truck will be painted like this including the cowl hood. Any help in the prep stage would be greatly appreciated.

U can paint over powder coat, you just have to make sure you get it sanded enough so that the paint will be able to bond with it. I personally would just have it soda blasted since you are doing a grille because I am guessing that it will be kind of difficult to get into every nook and cranny.
