Cool Spare Tire Rack Question

I have a 96 blazer ls 4-door and am looking at getting a spare tire rack for the rear just like the newer zr2's had. What are the advantages and disadvantages of putting the tire rack in the rear? I found a "like-new" spare tire rack at a good price and am wanting to get it, but don't know if I should. How hard are they to put on? I think Benedict had a diy on it?

it just takes some patience to get your hands in some tight spots.

i love having it on there and would do it again in a heartbeat.

couple of things though...
  • you cant open rear glass with carrier closed.
  • you have to be sure to make VERY SURE its latched, i have a cable on mine just to be sure it wont swing around.
  • wiper may or may not work on rear depending on where you place it....mine works fine, but i thought someone said theirs wouldn't.

any questions feel free to post them up in the discussion thread.
there are several of us with them now...so i think most problems have been covered.

Oh ok lol. My bad about that. I just found your diy. Nice write up. I thought $40 was pretty good for the spare tire rack. What do you think? The rack is in good condition. And I'm not worried about my rear wiper because it doesn't work right now anyway lol. A piece tore off the wiper rested on and I have to fix that soon.

I'm in no way a professional or a good mechanic, but I'm trying to learn things to save a buck. Do you think I can install this by myself? I like the look of the gate on a 4-door.

Also one thing. Is the tailgate still fully functional?

Thanks!

The gate is fully functional once the carrier is open, yes.
