5.3LS vs 5.7 vortec swap??
#21
keep us up updated on your swap!! haha. i wanna see more swap's before i attack mine. haha, im only 17 so its gonna be a few more months before mine will get done due to family problems (i have my engine mounts and the manifolds for the swap so im ready) but i still wanna see more people do the swap before i do mine.
Just checked the tracking of my mounts I ordered from Jeg's and they're due to arrive Monday morning, as promised, so that's going to be perfect timing. Weather is also going to be into the MID-70's for most of the week here with sunny and clear weather too.
Once I have the engine figured out and mocked into place, I'll pull it back out long enough to swap the factory heads and cam with the LS1 heads and cam that I picked up about 3 years ago at a swap meet. At the time I bought them, I had NO idea what I planned to do with them, but I couldn't pass up the price at $400 for all of it!
I have a Build thread https://blazerforum.com/forum/builds...stinker-83306/, so I will be posting a LOT of pictures on it. What I'm now in SERIOUS need of is the wiring diagram for the LS wiring harness cause all I have is this MAJOR octopus of wires attached to the ECM!

That is a VERY easy answer LS all the way, LS engines are way easy to program when it comes to after market part's, and an they are much easyer to work on in my eyes then 5.7.
the 5.7 vortec is more expensive because there becoming harder to find so many went to NOBAMA with cash for clunker's(makes me wanna cry).
but in the end if your doing all that work you might as well go with a LS simply because your going to be opening the loom anyways to wiring in the conntector for the 5.7 injector connetor.so might as well remove all the wiring and put in a 5.3 you need to pay attention to what year the LS engine is as well i know a 2007 classic fuel pump puts out a MAX pressure of 65 PSI but a 2007 NON classic body style fuel pump will put out up to 100 PSI, be prepared to pay attention to the body style and make of the truck the engine comes from!
I know myself i would size things up for a 6.0L because they are NASTY!
but you MUST remember when doing this swap, take it from my mistake's the engine WILL be needed to be worked on at somepoint so if there is plenty of room for a 6.0 then drop it in, if th 5.3 is easyer then go with a 5.3.
i know they are both small block's but the 6.0 has a bigger cooling system, bigger headers/manifold's.
Anyways there is alot of work to this and alot of planning. just winging it usally turns into a cluster **** plan everything first so it only takes a month to do the swap not 3 cause of parts

You have a lot of good points except the 5.3 and 6.0 on the outside are identical. 6.0 just has a bigger bore and stroke length. The headers from a 5.3 will fit fine on a 6.0 or even an ls1. All LS engines bolt on accessories are interchangeable. This means (for the most part except for the ls6 valley pan) everything from a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 6.2, LS1-LS9, can work interchangeably minus bottom end (pistons, connecting rods etc).
Im going with a 5.3 LM7 out of a 2001 silver ado in my 1997 s10 2wd. You will need the Hummer LH8 oil pan unless you want to do some serious cutting of the front crossmember. Even with the Hummer pan you will probably have to notch the crossmember a little bit to get a decent amount of clearance.
Between Older style v8's and the newer LSX's I would say go with an lsx motor. They are much more durable and efficient and can handle a ton of power. Im not bashing the older style, I'm just saying for practicality and Daily Driving especially the newer LS style is the way to go.

but i got the engine wiring computer F-body headers and the engine mounts. all i need now is the body. haha. i can get a 02 2WD for 2,000$ but it runs and drives as it is now. (family has is so i know what it needs and its alot i.e bad injectors door panels and a few inside problems)
the body i want to get is i believe a 2001 GMC jimmy SLT 4x4 with a blown engine. i can get that for 500$ right now. but, i gotta find a job. because at the moment i do not have a job, and its hard to find on in Mississippi at 17. haha. but, nonetheless. it WILL be done. im not sure on when, but it will be because i have every thing to do it except the body. haha.
