I agree dont knock the 235's. I ran a set of Michelin All terrains in 235/75R15 for a long time on my '87. They would go through frame deep mud. 31" would make it so you could go through deeper mud. Tires play a huge role in what you can or cannot do. Honestly, its 80% driver and 20% equipment.

stock Cherokees are Dana 30 up front. I dont recommend using that axle for a solid axle swap, granted it will work and is one of the better choices as far as simplicity of the swap, however its a week axle. your IFs set-up is just as strong. I wouldn't go past 33" on your IFS or the stock Dana 30. your best option fora solid axle swap is a Dana 44 out of a 77-79 Bronco. Why go through all the awork, and not have a stronger axle?
