Default 1998 4WD LT, Ball bearings shot? or just me?

Hey all,

I noticed that when I am driving in my parents' Chevy Blazer, '98, that when we take curves at about....40 or 50 mph and higher, sometimes at any speed that there is a squeaking/grinding noise coming from the wheels. At first, I thought it was just wear and tear, but when checking out some stuff to see if I want to purchase my own blazer, I stumbled upon the tid bit that the ball bearings do that.......

Thoughts?

hard to tell without hearing the noise, but to check the bearing try driving through turns. your putting a load on them so you take a left your load is on the right. see if your noise goes away with left or right. maybe if your lucky you could lift up your truck and see if there is play in them.....

Haha, I am 17 and definitely am not going to try to fix stuff like that on my parents Blazer until I play with my own once I get it.

We have been going through turns for quite a while, and the noise still persists. I am tempted to mention it to my dad, but not sure if he has the money to fix 'em now.

What would happen if they are not replaced XD

Could be a problem with the brakes which should be easy to diagnose.

As far as what could happen if it is your hub assemblies, well, worst case, the wheel comes off...

What would you recommend be done? Just take it to a mechanic, or just hold off?

I am assuming the first option, but not sure if it will cost a lot

Personally I'd get something like that fixed ASAP and pay to have it done properly with GOOD parts, front-end parts are a little too crucial IMO to get cheap with. I've seen a guy break something on the front end of an old Civic, not pretty, almost took some pedestrians out as he jumped the sidewalk. I'd hate to see a wheel come off your parent's Blazer and them end up on the roof.

Could be wheel unit bearing, brakes, cv shaft, etc... If you are unable to decipher what is causing the noise then I would recommend getting it to someone who can at least identify it.

I mentioned it to my dad and he just glared at me lol. He is not too keen about spending money at the moment.
