4wd wont engage

4wd wont engage
ok i have a 1995 4wd gmc jimmy so it has the push button 4wd..when i press the buton for 4wd the light flickers on and it clicks then stops..it dosent engage..but the buttons are all broke in pieces..could that be the problem?
