Default Stupid Question !! Need Answer Please

I was given a 1987 S-10 Blazer. Never had any type 4WD vehicle. How do I use the 4WD Shifter? Do I have to be at a complete stop to shift into 4 WD? Do I have to back up to engage or anything? Please help. Im a 4WD virgin

You should be able to shift between 2wd-hi and 4wd-hi on the fly, that means while driving at a slow speed, like under 5mph. If you want to get into 4wd-lo then you need to come to a complete stop, put your transmission in neutral then shift. Make sure you have your foot on the brake and you're on level ground when going ing 4-low.

Some older vehicles require you to reverse for a bit to unlock the hubs after putting it back into 2wd but not all do. I think it is mainly autolocking front hubs.
