The guy I bought my 96 Blazer LT from mentioned he had replaced the shocks within the past year. He did all of his maintenance work himself. Seemed pretty knowledgable about everything.

I've got this weird "clucking" or "thunking" underneath when I back out of the driveway...(it puts a little "twist" on the frame) It'll do it as I back out, and then right as I start moving forward. It's AWD, with NP3 code. I can also get it to make that sound when I hit the gas hard from a stoplight, bringing the front end up a bit, and then I let off, and as the body settles back down, I may hear a "thunk" or two.

Any ideas? Thanks!

 

BALL JOINTS

 

It is possible that it is ball joints, but I have also replaced the shocks on my Bravada and I had to go back in and re-tighten the shock bolts after a bit. Seems that my replacement shocks didn't have the exact same length bushing as the old ones so I had to cinch things down a bit more to get it all nice and snug. In my case, it was the upper shock bolts that were tight, but not tight enough to draw the support in and really clamp down on the bushing in the top of the shock. Give that a try before moving on to the ball joints as it may be as simple as tightening down some bolts.
