Default A/C stuff

That time of year...

AC started blowing hot air...
Took to shop and they said compressor, orifice tube, drier and HI side line needed to be replaced...total cost $1100...

I don't mind not having AC but when I have my daughter, I know it kills her...

Went on RockAuto and can pretty much get everything for about $200....Heard good things about the Sanden compressors but i'm on a pretty tight budget right now..

Aside from getting a complete vacuum and recharging the system..i think I can pretty much replace what is needed....

Anybody else gone thru this?

Any pointers or tips?

When the compressor takes a dump, the first place metal fragments go, is into the condenser. Flushing the condenser is nearly impossible, (no guarantee it will remove all fragments) and there is no mention of replacing it. If there are metal fragments in the condenser, and they make their way to the new compressor, it will trash it in a hurry.

I just did similar on my daughters 2000 blazer with 85,000 miles. The truck sat for a few years, as you can see by the mileage. You can get a Delphi for $230.00 from auto zone, or Compressorworks Part number 628145 also from Auto Zone. the later came recommended from my neighbor who is a GM service manager. He said considering the age of the vehicle not worth going the brand name from the dealer which might of been over $300. anyway we did the compressor job early May and its working beautiful. don't forget whoever does the Freon to put dye in it then. good luck.

Last summer I redid my air and replaced everything in mine except the evaporator and the condenser. My compressor was just leaking and had not destroyed itself yet. I followed all the advice given to me here on the forum. Here is a link to what I did and the help I got, hope it helps you. The key is whether that compressor has destroyed itself and threw metal fragments through out the system:

Had freezing cold air all last summer and when same this summer!!

Thanks for the responses!!

i would have figured they would have mentioned needing a new condenser thinkning they would get more $$...

Gonna take a chance and get the drier, compressor, orifice tube and HI side line.

If my system has no refridgerant (sp?) in it, can i just disconnect the line...gonna have to get it vacuumed and more stuff put in anyway...

Rockauto has a sanden style compressor that comes with the compressor, orifice tube, receiver dryer and all the seals for about $132.
