cat converters
Is there supposed to be a special type of cat converter in my 2002 chevy blazer because the engine does not have an egr valve... If so please direct me into the right path where i can study them for future replacement.

As far as I know: a cat is a cat is a cat... Specifics are dependent upon application (configuration, design etc) I am probably wrong but from a casual glance at my 97 and a friends 01 they look totally the same with minor shielding design differences;the flanges and length look the same. I was able to directly bolt off & on a cat from a 96 to a 97...
Do some parts research-you will be pleasantly surprised!

it'll have to be cut and welded unless you want to spend $500 for a new one....

^^ yep, mine had to be cut out and welded on, GM didn't put any flanges between the manifolds and the muffler.
Picked a universal MagnaFlow converter from Summit Racing for $100 shipped.

I have a magnaflow cat and I like it alot. Give better sound and a little better performance. I paid $300 for that cat and to have it put in.
