Default Transfer case mating area has fluid inside.

I’ve been told this area is supposed to have fluid and that it’s supposed to be dry so I am unsure on what’s right. I’ve also been struggling to determine what seals I need for the mating shafts for the transmission and transfer case. Thanks in advance.
It is a 233c transfer case on an 02 LS S10 Blazer if that helps any.
