Default Whacky fuel gauge

I have a 1997 blazer 4x4. The fuel gauge works and then tacks out to the right. Is that a ground problem and any suggestions on how to fix it?

Could be, could also be a bad sender on the pump. Removal required

Also check your connection under the driver side on the inside of the frame. The connecter there is your signal source for your fuel gauge.

Do I have to drop the tank to access it?

If the fuel pump was not replaced with a Delco or Delphi, then you can never be sure if the sending unit is working right. That particular year has a fuel level buffer module underneath the glove box. There is a rheostat on the pump that is connected to a float and that sends an ohm reading to the buffer.

I cant remember what the ohms full/empty should be for that year. Search the site.

My fuel gauge works oddly too. Basically it goes down way too fast from full. It will go down to like a quarter of a tank but then if I refill it, I'll find that I had half a tank left. It will eventually go down to right above the red line, then stay there for awhile, then start going lower with the Low Fuel warning light eventually coming on. However, I am not sure if that is still an accurate reading or not, as when it gets that low, I do not usually drive it too far as I get nervous. So I haven't really been able to test the range I can go with it down that far.

One thing, but what is the range on the Jimmys/Blazers with an 18 gallon tank? My fuel gauge gives about 200 miles before getting right above the line, but that seems rather low...? I ask because if I know the proper range, I could probably calculate the amount of fuel left when it gets to that point. I suspect that with its mileage, that it is getting a lower amount of gas mileage though.

ACA? Bag thrower? Lol I have a 97 and it has a 16 gallon tank. My gauge read 1/4 tank and when I went I fueled it up only took 8 gallons. Everybody telling me sending unit is worn out. Probably guna drop the tank (which is brand new) and replace fuel pump. And from the looks of the fuel lines I'd guess the pump is new also.

My fuel pump is new, however I'd have to check this thing called the sending unit.
