Ok, I will try that this weekend, Thanks. What got me confused was that I read about the yellow wire but it said '95-'97.

ok,
so i did the quad-mod but i did it this way.

on drivers side harness i ran the wires to a relay...

85 - green/white
87 - to ground
30 - yellow/blk
86 - purple

so what i have is...

Quad-Mod
No DRL
AHL still work.

(this was not my brain child...i read it on the zr2usa forum)

I may have to end up using a relay like this.

When I did my quad beam mod, it re-enabled the DRLs so I quickly undid it. I have a plug underneath the bumper so I can easily redo the mod but a relay setup would be more elegant and actually work correctly.

ok HID fans i have an issue now...hoping i can get some help.

so since i did quad mod relay i am having trouble with lows coming on.
i thought maybe i had a bad one but the little bastards are working on and off on both sides...so i am guessing wiring.

two things though.
first...i did quad mod before hid on low install, no issues other than drl came on using the low beams...no biggie at the time (was only a temp thing)
two...i did relay at same time as low beam HID install.

what happens is i turn on the truck..and one or maybe both lows wont come on.
so first time i checked stock harness to HID kit connection...maybe it was loose.
nope wiggled it and nothing..so i disconnected it and reconnected..bingo light came on.
ok so i thought no biggie....then tonight opposite side did same thing!!
what i have found is that if i disconnect and reconnect they come on.
other odd thing is this..stay with me here.

passenger low was off......driver low was on.
flipped to brights
passenger bright comes on .....driver bright stays off.
disconnect and reconnect passenger low
pass and driver low work
pass and driver high work.

shut truck off...and on when i stop...no problem they all work.
go inside for awhile...come out 2 hours later.
no lows at all...highs both work.
disconnect reconnect both lows and they work.
(all disconnect and reconnect is done with truck on)

soooo million dollar question...is it a bad reiant be quad mod related....havent found anything similar at all.

edit......
just went for a ride again...
pass came on not drivers side for lows...but both highs all good...ugghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Edit
so i find that during daytime with lights off at start (ahl) then turn them on after starting the truck and turn them on manually they are fine. It must be happening at startup.

Edit 3:
Ok i narrowed down to the AHL. It i start the truck during day and turn on lights its fine. I cover the ahl
Sensor then start truck lights are funky.
uncover ahl during the day turn lights on then start truck all is fine.
if in evening i turn on lights then start truck then turn off lights letting ahl do its thing its fine.
So i think i may have to disable ahl...which i like but i want quad more.
I hope someone has had this problem and kept ahl....i think its a combo of hid and the ahl not getting along now

If you want to keep your low beam bulbs on with the high beams, find the yellow wire (not the yellow wire with black tracer) from the low beam bulb and ground it out. I elected to pull the wire loom back to get to the wire further from the bulb connector and strip off about a 1/4" of insulation from the wire without cutting the it. Using a soldering pencil, I soldered the new wire into the existing. With a self tapping sheetmetal screw, I attached the ground to the radiator core support. Last, I put the wires back in the loom and buttoned it back up! But that's just how I did it, you could use a clip on connector to splice off of the main wire as well, and it would work good for a long time.

I just did it in a little under 20 minutes, soldering and all. Here are some pics:

Just finished soldering

Wiring complete!

1995 -1997 Jimmy/Blazer (May Work on other years do at own risk)

Tools and parts needed:
solder and soldering iron

4 crimp spade connectors
wire strippers
crimper
Heat shrink or electrical tape
Relay
Inline fuse holder with 10 amp fuse

How to wire your headlights so the low beams stay on when you have high beams on.
First take the cover off the power terminal block on the drivers side fender should look something like the 1st pic. then locate the wire harness (2nd pic) its kind stuffed under the ABS controller unplug it and you should be able to pull it out from under the bracket to get more room to work on it.
Once you have that unplugged and pulled out find the light green wire and the tan wire strip these are the 2 wires for high and low beams (3rd pic)

When you find the right wires take a stripper and peel back the insulation on them about an inch do not cut right through them it makes it harder to solder.
Using a length of wire strip the end enough so you can wrap it around the tan wire already stripped to solder. Use a spade connector on other end to hook up to relay.
Hook up the tan wire to pin 30 on the relay
Do the same for the light green wire and hook the light green wire to pin 86 on the relay
Take a piece of wire and put a a ring terminal on it and find a good place to ground it I used the bolt the holds the power terminal to the fender. The other end gets a spade terminal and is connected to pin 85 on the relay.
Take your wire with the fuse holder (leave fuse out) on it put a ring terminal on one end and attach it to one of the powered terminal on the power block. Put a spade terminal on the other end and attach it to pin 87 of the relay. Thats it 4 simple wires to hook up and your brights will have a much better light pattern.
Remember to put your fuse back in your fuse holder and your done.

ground to pin 85
fused constant power to pin 87
tan wire (low beam) to pin 30 and
light green wire( high beam) to pin 86
87a no connection

Wait so am I supposed to use the directions following the red text, or the directions following the light blue text? The directions after the red text is about 5,000,000x easier.

I just did the mod on my 98 blazer. I just followed the red text and grounded out the yellow wire on both sides. Works great, awesome mod!
