Car Audio Discussion

I wish i had looked at sundown before i bought my JL 12w7. i'm tempted to sell it and buy some of Jacob's amazing products. they look very promising and i'm always one to play around in car audio.
right now i'm actually looking at selling my sub to afford some stuff i need to get fixed. i have money in the bank but i really don't need a huge a$$ sub in the trunk. let alone one that cost me $400
and Jag, i just realized you're the sales rep for Maryland. why couldn't you live in Michigan?

I'm 17, well 18 in 15 days, but anyways I prefer sound quality much more than being loud, most people my age just want loud, but what's the point when it sounds like absolute crap? Just thought I'd let you guys know not all of us teens are like that haha.
And my set up now consists of...
6 1/2 crunch speakers in the doors
2 crunch tweeters
4 guage tsunami wiring
12'' JBL GTO1204D
MTX Thunder TC4001 amp.
I have the sub at 2ohms getting 400WRMS which is 100 over what it is rated... I already have blown the dust cap off of it
But it's okay my system is getting redone next summer... my door speakers are garbage lol.
My plan is
MA audio amp thats rated 800RMS @ 2ohms
2010 Kicker CVX that is rated at 800RMS and can be wired to 2ohms
Sealed box
Kenwood 6 1/2's and 6x9's
New Sony headunit.
I love Sony headunits for some reason... and IMO all the kickers I have ever heard/hooked up sounded great to me. Tell me what you guys think. And eventually I might amp my components.

suggestions......loose the Sony Headunit idea. Pioneer and JVC kick *** and have 5v preouts which is good for the amps. Kicker isnt all that great and the subs sound really sloppy. Even in SQ applications. Not pushing my product but do some research before you set ur mind on subs and amps. Sundown, FI, DC, RE all make quality product and will hold up much longer and sound better then the kicker.
Your going to want to build a good strong box. Im not big into sealed enclosures so Im going suggest you do ported. Ported enclosures sound awsome. Do some research before you start building. A well build 4th or 6th order bandpass will give you great response through a large frequency range and sound great doing so.
I would highly suggest amping your components. It will sound much better and you will like it better then running off headunit power.
If you have any other questions you can feel free to PM if you would like

I love the way the Kicker's I've heard have sounded... I'm not set on it but I haven't heard many other brands... Also how much are those compared to a Kicker... I'm only looking to spend around 200 on a sub. And I want it to be 800RMS because I already have my amp.
Also what should I look for when it comes to headunits... Like what settings/controls should it have. I know I want one with a HPF and LPF but what else...
and I listen to all kinds of music, country, rap, rock, etc. and I've heard that sealed boxes are better for a variety of music whereas ported is mainly for rap.
And also I'm getting kenwood coax's not components my bad. I've heard them in a small room at a shop and they sounded loud enough from me and as long as I have a decent HU I should be able to make sure they don't get distorted sounding.

If your door speakers your going to want to find a HU with a full EQ since you wont be able to do any tuning from your amplifier.
I dunno who told you sealed boxes are better for varieties of music but they are full of crap. They sound good for good tight bass but ported boxes produce a much better sound IMO. All my boxes have been ported and I could play everything from jazz to chopped and screwed music and it sounded good on everything. Its all about your build.
Im not trying to steer you away from what you want to do. I just want you to make sure you do a little research before you build, make sure you do it properly and that its what you want. We can guide you and help you along the way with suggestions and input but ultimately its your decision on what you wanna do.
