if you overpower a sub past it's thermal limits, yes, power will kill a sub.
RE SE's can handle 1000wrms if you keep the signal clean, I've ran over 700wrms to a single SR, and they're rated for 300wrms. I did this for over a year.

back in my early highschool days I had a 150 rms JENSEN amp and roasted 3 alpine type s' 10's(individually of course, don't remember rms, but they were single voice 4 ohm) within a year... luckly the were replaced by A&B sound each time.
Right. Most subs give out from a "dirty" or clipped signal. But you can over power a sub and stress the componets to thier limits. Over excursion ripping the surround, heat inside the assembly killing the voice coils locking up the subs cone. I actually had a set of punch p1 15's (the older red and black subs) 150 rms and 300 peak IIRC. Ran on a cheap xplod 2000gtr (500x1 bridged). All of the sudden one sub locked up, hard as concrete. Then about 3 weeks later the other locked up. But that one was dirty signal not overpower for sure.
I will say though, when not bridged and when they were wired right and not getting a clipped signal those low end rockfords sounded pretty good. Took a beating for a good while also. Lookin foreward to seein Tyler's build with those p2's. Now that he's got some proof up and all
. Interesting direction.

my buddy locked up an old Polk MOMO 10. he powered it with a kenwood mono block. no idea what the sub rms was because nothing is on the sub, the amp was the kenwood KAC-8101D. the sub is in my garage and i can move it only when i put most of my weight on it...

right, but its not the power that kills it, its the BUILD UP of heat from playing for extended periods. how do you think they burp 10, 000 watts on a single sub and have it come out perfectly fine? or wall socket them and be fine?
not to mention how often do you really intend on blasting the volume at a 50hz tone? cause music is dynamic and you seldom see what you believe to be full power from the amp. considering box rise imp. rise and everything else, i bet most people are only running half the power they think they're getting.

so changing tides here.... talking with zedartwo in a different thread.... i love the cheap but "clean" power that MB Quart provides. i always wanted to play with their amps but never had the chance because i was either already happy with the amps i had or found a great deal when i had the money to afford them. anyone have problems with MB Quart or similar?
No problems but on a audio forum I was skimming through a Maxxsonics rep said MB quart WILL do over the rated power. my 1500 mono will to 1600RMS. That was good to hear for sure.

lulz....I dont think MB Quart has made a good product since they were bought by Maxxsonics. I wouldnt believe all you hear until you see some actual clamped stats
