It's Rustoleum Metallic, black metallic. Looks a lot like the original paint.

Wow. It's been a long time since I've been on here. We went on vacation, sold our house and moved, found pre-existing termite damage, and found out we were expecting our 4th child. Needless to say, it's been a busy few months.

I haven't done anything really to the truck since before that, except change the oil. It runs great. Although, I am planning my next mod out of necessity. We got some ice and snow this week...and the 4x4 decided to quit on me. I was all over the road when we first got the ice. It was terrible. And I've been driving on this stuff for almost 20 years, part of that time in a Firebird.

Anyway, I think I'm going to do a posi-lock setup. This is the second S-series I've owned that the 4X4 has gone out. The other time was a ZR2, but it got totaled before I could fix it.

Does anyone know if there will be any issues if mine has Auto 4? I know I'll lose that feature. It is nice to have, but I'd rather it just work when it's supposed to.

I installed my posi-lock system over the weekend and found why the 4x4 wasn't working. The vacuum hose was melted through in 2 places. It wasn't even attached to anything anymore. The easy thing to do would have been to re-run a vacuum line, but that could have failed again the same way. Fixing it for good was the way to go. I tested it out and it worked great. I did run into one issue and I hope someone else has, too. The location where I had to mount the cable handle in order to screw into metal is far enough under the dash that I'm not able to turn the handle to lock it. I used a 1 1/2" corner bracket as I've seen in other writeups, specifically in Rex's build here. Has anyone else had this issue and what had to be done (cut out part of the under dash)? Or is there somewhere else I should have mounted it?

What cable did you go with? I'm only curious because I was able to screw mine into the metal dash frame with that bracket where I mounted mine and I could get a full turn (enough to lock it) with my setup. You will need to be able to get it locked otherwise it will just slide the fork back disengaging 4wd if it's not locked.

I went with this one: Cable The price was right and it looked adequate. I screwed into the dash frame at the point where the plastic pieces screw together and that was the only metal I could find, except for right under the steering column. The under side of the dash in mine has an arc to it, which doesn't help.

Yup that's the same setup as I had so it should be workable. Perhaps mine didn't make it all the way to the metal but if not the plastic there was sufficient enough that it never caused me any issue when I had mine in there.

A little bit of an update: I got my switch mounted for my off-road lights.

I mounted it in my overhead console. I modified the sunglasses holder. Turned out pretty well, I think.

Here are the lights I got:

The wiring harness that came with the lights wasn't going to work as-is so I bought 3 spools of wire and spliced the connectors for the switch. Now it will be long enough to reach the battery.

Small update: A couple of weeks ago I noticed a busted sway bar link. Bought a set of Moog replacements with polyurethane bushings. Ripped both sides off and got them replaced. Huge difference.

Oh, and this yesterday:
