I am removing the transmission from my 97 s-10 blazer. Question #1:I have the 4L60E with removable bell housing, they apparently switched styles in 97.I believe this is the newer model used in the late 90"s I have removed the top two bell housing bolts by drilling holes through the fire wall from the inside, worked well.Is there a "TOP CENTER" bell housing bolt?? I count 8 bolts in hand still the trans does not want to separate ...with LOTS of encouragement. #2: I believe after removing the transfer case I can remove this transmission without removing any of the exhaust.Any one done this or is it a pipe dream,,lol. #1- There are two pins, sometimes they form a rust bond. Soak them with PB Blaster and get out the pry bar. First remove the driveshafts and t-case so you can lower the rear of the tranny, this will help in teh seperation. Support the tranny with a block of wood spread across the pan so you dont damage the pan. It would have been easier to lower the rear of the tranny and used 3' of extensions and a wobble socket to get the top two bolts out. Another option is to slip your hand between the firewall and feel for a top bolt.
#2 Good luck. Look at how wide the bellhousing is and where it will pass the exhaust.
