Default Blazer taking longer to start up

Prior to this past weekend my 99 6cyl 4wd blazer always started right up on the first crank. But since this past weekend it takes alot longer to start now. It has to crank over several times before it starts up. Sometimes it will start right up but sometimes it cranks for a few seconds before it starts up. Any ideas as to what would cause this. Also I don't get any fault codes at all.

When was the last time you did a tune up? Have you done a fuel pressure test?

sounds like your system isn't holding pressure after a long shut down, which is when i'm guessing it takes a "few seconds" to fire up?

I had a complete tune up done 4 months ago and the blzer doesn't have to sit for a long time for it to do this. I can shut it down and start it right back up and it will crank for several seconds before it starts and once in a while it starts right up. before I turn the key all the way on I turn it part way and I can hear the fuel pump charge the system and then I turn the key all the way and it still takes a few seconds to start. Also I just came back from going to the store and I noticed that after I put it into gear and I start to go I can take my foot of the gas pedal and the blazer will continue to go and it will go up to 30mph all by itself and stay right there. the rpm will stay around 1000/1200 rpm and the only way I can make the rpm drop back down is if I come to a complete stop and hold the brake then I can see the rpm drop down to normal. Then once I start to go again and the tach goes above 1000 rpm's I can take my foot of the pedal and it will go by itself and stay around 1000/1200 rpm. I don't know if both problem are related or not but it seems strange that they both started at the same time and I would think that I would get a fault code but I don't get a check engine light and I also plugged in my tester and I get no fault codes.

what would cause a pressure leak? It sounds like what blazer is doing long sits it will take a few seconds to start up vs. warm starts it starts right up. Thanks - Mark

Upmaine, sounds like something going on with the cruise that's leaving it way to rich at shutdown-startup. I have no idea how that system works.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I the same problem with a 96 4x4 with 278000 miles. I have tuned it up, changed the fuel filter and pump, as well as checked for a vacuum leak, which I found in relation to a bad brake booster.

I had a hard starting issue on my Bravada (4.3L engine). It would always start, but was very hard. Turns out it was my fuel pressure regulator. Replaced it and it starts like a charm

I was having the same slow starting problem for a couple days had the starter checked and the battery with no problems then the next day drive it parked it came back and now when I turn the key I hear my fuel pump have plenty of charge (already tried jumping it) ands when I turn the key it doesn't even turn over I also know that I have a bad break booster with a vacuum leak that had been bad for a long time but due to limited funds has yet to be replaced anybody have any ideas for a complete mechanic novice?
