Default bye bye motor

so i was driving on the hiway and i heard a knocking from the motor and it was not the kind that comes from the valves and within 5 seconds the noise got verry loud then the motor froze and when i stoped and looked under the truck thear was oil leaking out and if i tried to start the truck i could heat the starter trying to move but it could turn the motor, and when i got home i found a pice of the motor on the flat bed truck,

so with that said, where can i find a new moter or is it cheaper to have a mecanic fix it (1996 blazer lt awd 4.3 vortec)and does anybody have any ida as to what could have went wrong

thanks
john d

Probably cheaper to have crate motor installed if you don't want to rebuild it yourself.

As to what went wrong...can you tell where the oil was leaking from? What "part of the motor" did you find?

The hole is in the engine block? If that's the case you're gonna have to get a new block. I would guess you threw a rod.

I tend to agree, my buddy's ford probe did the same thing, a really loud knock and then the engine just konked out. He pulled over and there was an oil slick behind him, turns out a connecting rod snapped and punched a hole through the block.

Now you have an excuse to put a V8 in! lol

Yea go with a create engine, or find a cheap blazer with a bad tranny and buy it, then pull the motor and sell the rest of it for scrap.
