Hi, im on a very strict budget and need to replace my np 208. i have a 84 k5 blazer. ive went thru two of these and dont have much money to spend... my local junkyard has one for 200 dollars, with a 90 day warranty. is that a decent price? should i try and talk them down?
one last question. i have a 84 k5 blazer with a 700r4/np208... well it looks like there is a brace or something that supports the np208 tcase, and my blazer is missing this. do you know what this part is called, so i know what to ask for when i go down to the junkyard? thanks very much.

Mostlikely is just a shield. I think that the aluminum cases are held by just the bolt pattern on the back of the transmission and have a mount at this location as well.
$200 does not sound too awful bad, but then again, I find deals all over the place that make that sound outrageous.

hi, my name is aaron. im on a low budget, and am considering attempting to rebuild my own np208 tcase for my 84 k5 blazer. does anyone know if i could do this myself without any experience rebuilding tcases? i have tools, patience, and basic knowledge.
is there a guide i can buy? they want 550 for a rebuilt one locally, and i am wondering if someone with experience could tell me if i should even make the attempt. i can get a used one for 200 w/90 day warranty locally. thanks

Aaron, I have merged your two threads. Lets try to keep your questions about your transfer case into one thread.
The NP208 is fairly easy to rebuild with nothing that should jump out as difficult for a first time rebuilder. I would recommend you get your self a good manual though. From time to time you can pick up the factory service manuals for fairly economical prices on eBay and they are a great resource for your vehicle repairs.
You need to determine what a rebuild kit actually costs and if you actually need it.
What is your truck doing that you are looking to rebuild it? What happened to the first transfer case that made you replace it?
