Gave that a shot on Dale, It aint it. Upon closer inspection it seems my belt tensioner must be going cuz every time i hear it the tensioner moves a little bit. Plus the sound seems tobe coming from that area.Might have a bad bearing on it or something.

This is good to hear! I've been very afraid of that lifters idea...still haven't had the chance to try this though...going to tonight or tomorrow.

My truck did the same thing lastcoupe described. If I rested my foot really gently againt the gas pedal I could even feel it [&:]

my next guess would be the a/c clutch....but thats a given.....

OK so really, this ticking is entirely in the engine compartment and not at all transmitted to the inside of the vehicle. It's loud enough right as the engine starts cold, to hear it witht he doors closed and windows up, however. It did it once today probably the loudest it ever has. Not to say it was very loud, but just a tick, and for about 15 or 20 seconds. It really sounds like a very mild knock but let's hope not as I have 100,700 miles and I drive it like a tired grandma (VERY rarely accelerating over 2,100 RPMs and never exceeding 55 MPH) and religiously maintain it. This is annoying, I really wish I knew what it was.

OK so now all at once I changed my oil and pcv valve, added lucas injector cleaner and lucas transmission treatment. I'm assuming it's the result of the new pcv valve that now I can barely hear the ticking at all. Now I feel much better that it was that simple of a fix. I recommend the $1.60 pcv valve to everyone with this ticking!
