It's worth is what ever someone is willing to pay for it. Blue book pricing doesn't mean much for older vehicles. If it's what you want and in the shape you are willing to accept then go for it if you can afford it. I wouldn't finance anything over ten years old.

Wonder if OP is gonna come back and tell us if she bought it or not. I hope she did and for a good deal, it looks like such a clean truck.

I found your ad and then I googled the dealer. I am super skeptical of dealers. They usually know very little about the cars they are selling - buy wholesale, clean them up and flip them.

I cruised 3 review sites to check them out. Cars.com, cargurus.com and Yelp. The dealer interacts heavily with the first 2 replying to reviews. Yelp is probably the most non-biased. I would say these guys try to buy "higher end" used cars and are not intentionally selling junk but they are looking to maximize profit with cosmetics. They play hardball especially when you start to do the deal. The lot sales people are nice and friendly but the finance folks can probably be described as sharks. If you know what you are doing you could be fine.

The vehicle you are are looking at is desirable. I am guessing with these guys they are at least $3000 inflated on price because of who they are and what they are doing. I would definitely get a complete independent examination - even if it costs $150 - before moving forward. If that's good then I would be thinking, "I am about to overpay for a $4000-$5000 vehicle. If I get it for $6,000 am I ok with paying a "happiness premium" just to have this vehicle."

Honestly I would hate to see you finance any used vehicle. You can really get into a trap if the vehicle blows up. I have a buddy who just dropped like $5,000 in his CJ. He said fixing up his CJ was more desirable than selling it and buying something else. If you love your current Blazer and it's not in terrible cosmetic shape then keep it. I'd rather drop $3,000-$4,000 in a vehicle I love than over pay $6500 on a vehicle I know nothing about.

OTOH - If the vehicle is as advertised and no issues you could be getting a vehicle for around $6k that has a good 200k miles left in it. Tough choice - good luck. (TBH - I would be very tempted myself at $6k but I'd pay cash and if something went wrong I wouldn't be financially screwed...)

Don't do it unless you REALLY want the vehicle. If someone hits you (not your fault), you're going to get maybe $2000 and the vehicle will be totalled.

I paid $5500 or so for this mint-appearing 2001 LT 4x4 with 65K miles over 5 years ago. To my chagrin it was a mechanical abortion - obviously why it was sold with the SES light disconnected and the wire to the cluster taped. I put in a new Goodwrench engine, had the transmission rebuilt, and spent a lot of time working on the 4WD. Ended up with a total of $12,000 in the vehicle. It has been hit (never our fault) and fixed 4 times - luckily each time the damage was less than the few thousand it would be totalled at. I now have put 40K miles on it and figure I need another 30K out of it to drive my money out. What could I sell it for now? Maybe $4,000 to the right buyer. What would total it? - maybe even less than $3000 damage. This is the problem with old vehicles that are not true collectors items (that can be insured as such).

But dang it, I always thought it was a pretty one. It still is, since the regularity of new body work has kept most of the paint fresh.... I'm just worried about two things. 1) rust 2) someone hitting it again before I get all the miles I want out of it. All I have had to do so far is to replace the rear bumper when rust started getting underneath the paint and caused bubbling and paint loss. Wife is driving it now and she loves it. Because I had to do so much work up front, I've always had mixed feelings towards it. We both agree that this vehicle would likely have hit the boneyard long ago, if I hadn't bought it and put all that money and effort into it.
