Picked up a swing-away spare tire mount that I'll install on my 4dr. First I'll have to sand and paint. The wrecking yard threw in the left front airbag sensor for free. They even put all of the bolts into a zip-lock bag for me and taped it all together.

I had to drive quite distance to get it but I took the opportunity to check out and drive through the channeled scab-lands of eastern Washington where there were several ice-age floods that drained ancient Lake Missoula that created waterfalls, hundreds of feet high. In particular I stopped at Dry Falls on the Grand Coulee.

Looking approximately to the east. The falls is 400' tall and 3.5 miles wide. When at full flood ~13,000 y.o., the water flowed at 65 mph.




The black arrow at the lower right is the location of the visitor's center and is from where the modern picture of the falls was taken.

replaced passenger cv axle seal, the whole half shaft came out with it, not sure if that's good, but drives well. Broke sway bar link in the process, and had to remove the shock to get it out. Bearing felt good, cv felt good, but the old seal didn't look bad. Used the "new" harbor freight seal puller, it didn't break. Then took a meter to abs sensor, cleaned the socket and mating surfaces, and that sensor is working properly now. Gotta do the drivers side abs next, that one is reading weak. Wish I saw the service bulletin https://blazerforum.com/forum/tech-a...ment%5D-26941/ brfore I installed the new ones, but I have no problem taking it apart again. I'll know better for next time.

I installed my new pads and rotors
Old rotor with groove from Rock
New pads and rotor. Powerstop Z36 towing.
Red paint on caliper courtesy of previous owner.

Replaced the left side air bag sensor with one from a wrecking yard. I had traced the airbag/SIR fault to this unit. I'm hoping this one will work. I found where some of the plastic body for the sensor was cracked where the metal mounting bracket penetrated the body so I covered it with silicone. I used tip from another forum member for mounting the sensor that uses threaded rivets/rivet-nuts so that the sensor can be mounted using machine screws. I also finished wiping up any residue of a small oil leak that I think I fixed so that I could confirm it was fixed. (I had lost one of the oil pan bolts.)

Good luck finding the detent pin. Scoured the net and have never come across any.

Thanks for this, Christine. Please let us know if the free replacement sensor is OK. That was a $300+ part when it was available new. Salvage is the only source now.

You are very welcome. I went for a test drive to visit a friend out the in country (10 miles out of my small town) that over which I was sure the sensor would have triggered the dash light multiple times even when initially the warning light would be off. The sensor seems to have worked. But with the machine screws, if I have to replace it, it will be easier now.

BTW, If you Google the GM part number for the left front sensor (the p/n can be found using one of the OEM GM parts websites) you can find that new aftermarket sensors are available at about $175.00. I decided to go with the junk yard version since others seem to have had no problem with them. Since not all Blazers have this problem, I'm hoping I got one of the good original ones!
