General ChatChat about all things Blazer (and related vehicles). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.
moved everything from rusted out 2000 blazer to pretty much rust free 2001 jimmy. The jimmy lived its whole life in the rust belt,What is the coating on frame etc.,i do think it was from the factory
Got my boy running again after four months of sitting! Drove him around the block a few times to get things moving. Parked him at an incline to properly get air out of the cooling system when I do that tomorrow. He sounds like a new truck, I don't even recognize him.
I put my Blazer to a little bit of work today. My wife shot her buck today, a 4 point (5 point for those that count brow tines) big body buck on our property. Used the winch to pull the buck up the hill, turned around and used the hitch to drag it up to the pole I hung years ago between a couple of pines, and the winch again to get it up in the air. Makes skinning so much easier when you can raise and lower the animal instead of using crates or step ladder. Already have some meat in the freezer from my cousin's buck from last season. The end of hunting this year will be officially over once the wife's buck is in the freezer.
And, no, I didn't get anything. I didn't draw any tags this year, should get a buck tag next year, though.

Nice! My youngest son has two doe so far this year; one in early doe season (mid-September) and one opening day of regular season. Both were nice size deer and the meat is already in the freezer. I let a 6pt and a small 4pt go opening day as there are two big 8pts and a 10+pt roaming our woods. I haven't been back out since though as work has been quite busy lately.
Congrats to your son! Nothing better than teaching a child to hunt and fish. Here in the west we have mule deer and only count one side of the rack, so a four point actually has 8 points. The reason some folks don't count the brow tines, such as myself, is because not all mulie bucks have brow tines. The buck is worthy off being mounted and hung on the wall. It has a 26" spread, which isn't a monster, but is respectable. We already have three mounts in the house, so this one I will do a Euro mount and hang it on the front of the garage. Just need to find a very good UV protectant to keep the antlers from bleaching out.
Good luck on your hunt and hope you get a big one!
Today I did a thorough check of my suspension. I should have done it while I had it in the garage last weekend, but I forgot. Besides everything felt nice and tight. But no, when I brought it my local tire shop for a tire rotation and alignment, a shop to which I have given a lot of business over the years, the tech said that he couldn't do the alignment because all my ball joints and idler arm needed to be replaced. I didn't have time to argue and just left. I had wanted to get it aligned because I just installed a new idler arm! (The 1-ton upgrade version to be exact.) If he had bothered to look, he would have see the new idler arm parts too!
So I spent the afternoon moving the cars around so I could put the Blazer in my one car garage and got out the tools and jack. I even borrowed a dial indicator and did all the tests as laid out in the GM Service Manual. And what do you know, everything is just fine and well within spec.
Either the tech is incompetent, or worse he thought he could pull one over on me since I was a woman and had asked for an alignment thinking I'd be primed to think I needed new parts and them to install them. Grrr!
A bit of a silver lining is that I did find and then fix a power steering hose leak. BTW, clean power steering fluid and new engine oil can look a lot alike! At first I thought I had an oil leak. I added an extra worm clamp to the original crimp one and it seems to be fine now.
My wife has had that happen to her over the years. I would go down to the shop and ask them to show me exactly what was wrong, and of course they would say they had no idea what I was talkig about until I had my wife come in. I despise those kind of shops. Sorry it happened to you. I know you know your stuff. Had I been you, I would have asked for another tech to do the job, and then let them know you will take your business elsewhere. That's the only way these shops may change the way they do business.
