Default Worth the money?

Looking at buying my first vehicle. A 1976 K5.

Originally they wanted $700.
Needed a starter, heater core, and blower motor assembly.

Now they bumped it up to $850, because they put the starter in yesterday.

Body is in good shape. Original 6.6L (400ci) small block engine and TH400 tranny with 92,000 miles.

Worth the money or what?

It does not look too awful bad.

I bought mine for $400 running, driving, and requiring only body work (although I am in the process of installing headers and a new exhaust system).

Here is a pic of mine:


You will want to make sure that the body mounting locations on the body are not rotted out, that the rear support that runs across in front of the tail gate is not rusted out, and the rockers... Pictures are not that great, but it looks like the driver rocker is rusted quite badly and the passenger side is bulging too.

Yeah, I looked at your post, looks like a nice truck, even before the work that needs to be done.

I was really excited when I looked and found a bunch of possibilities for this thing.

They're endless. And so are replacement parts! Cheap as can be!


Anyone know of some good places to get some standard specs for this truck?
The main thing I'd like to know is tire sizes that will fit.

But anyone that can find a general specs list, would be my new god for the time being.

A major development of 1976 was a new body design, it featured a steel half-cab with an integral roll bar built into the steel front compartment roof and lock pillar structures. Available at extra cost was a removable fiberglass-reinforced plastic roof that attached to the pickup box with 16 bolts.
As far as lift vs tires... I do not have any solid information for you. I have a 3" body lift on my K5 with stock suspension, 33x12.5x15 tires on 15x10 aftermarket rims with less back spacing than stock. My fenders are trimmed although I am not too sure that it would be necessary (was done before I bought it).

Stupid Question, Will the SM465 Trans bolt straight up to an NP203 Transfer Case? trying to do a manual conversion, tryin to save a little money by keepin the stock transfer case
