Ended up finding out it was only the tailpipe, and the nipple that extends from the muffler exit. Just welded up a sleeve of larger pipe over the whole thing to the new tailpipe. Turns out that Walker heavy duty round muffler is still holding together somehow ...

Default just turned 120,000, replaced blower motor

Hi all - continuing to fix up my 1995 blazer - bought this summer. Just replaced blower motor after it became intermittent - would go on sometimes, change speeds; I did some online research which led to replacing the motor - which solved the problem. Earlier in the winter had to replace heater core - not fun. Just put some really good tires on - doing alright in Vermont snow.

Had a couple electrical gremlins last night, thanks to the relentless salting of the roads up here after the 3 back-to-back snowstorms, totaling about 3'. More snow on it's way tonight ... just what we need.

Had the infamous "buzzing" wiper motor - classic ground problem. Would buzz every time you turned them on, but wouldn't move. Touched a couple grounded wires to the aluminum mounting tabs, and it started working. Easy fix - just removed the air cleaner and gave the 3rd mounting bolt back there with the ground strap a half turn. Sprayed it down with chain lube to keep the salt out of there.

The other more important problem was the wife had no heat on a -4°F morning. I heard about that one ... That was also a ground problem unrelated to the wipers. There's a bolt I ran through the firewall which has a large 8 awg wire that I connected to the back of the engine for ground. There are 2 other grounds attached to it - one of them for the blower motor. Turns out that bolt had semi-stripped threads, and had loosened, creating a bad ground. When I did the engine swap I installed redundant grounds all over the vehicle to keep it from falling dead in the water when the salt worked it's way in. So far that's been working great - no running issues to speak of. Found a split rubber port plug on the carb that was just starting to create a vacuum leak. Took care of that. She's back out there on the mean streets of Mass., corroding away ...
