Hello all, I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy, and tomorrow I plan on swapping out my steering gear, thats worn, with a fresh remanufactured 12.7:1 1988 monte carlo ss steering gear. I recently researched a ton of articles on the many makes and models that carry our Saginaw steering gear, they are in GM's, Jeeps, and Fords so boneyards should have a few. I went to Advanced auto and order it remanufactured and warrantied for 158 bucks. GM wanted $615, so I figured Id give this a shot instead, I'll keep yall posted on how it goes. Wish me luck.

Good luck man. I did mine. It is a pain in the *** to get the pitman arm off the gear. Then of course you have anewer vehicle so might not be as hard.

The day they come off the line the pitman arm seizes to the spindle.

Get a good pitman puller and a heavy hammer and stock up on the swear words and it should all come apart nicely.

Avoid the pickle fork technique if possible.

I have done pitman arm twice on my chevys and didnt find it that bad, after getting a puller. I wore myself out of the first one becuase i didnt have a puller and never could get it off without one. I actually rented one from autozone so it really didnt coast me anything. I would crank on it, tap it with hammer. Crank a little tap a little. They seemed to come off without too much trouble.

Beautiful handling now. 3 hours labor and 170 dollars with core return, awesome, feels like a car. Thanks for the help guys. Now on to fixing the sagging doors.
